Sometimes a moment in your life can last a lifetime. Today I had the chance; like many times before to read to my son’s class. However this time was differently special. You see, in the past it was always a book that I found in Barnes and Noble. A book that I thought would be interesting to the his class. But this time I had the pleasure of reading a children’s book that I wrote myself. In addition it was inspired by my son. The book, “Daddy, There’s A Noise Outside”

As much as I like to tell you about the smiles, laughs and interactions I had with the children. It was my own heart that could not stop smiling. I was doing something that was never done for me; having my son smile and feel proud in my presence.

I was also proud to see the book resonate with 1st graders. Their attention to detail and ability to talk about the notion of protest was incredible. I was amaze at how much they already understood about race and difference. I want to thank Ms. Pannullo and her 1st grade class at Dunwoody Elementary School. You are the best.
