Wrestlemania Still for the Old at Heart

Would I be considered old if I told you I remember watching Bruno Sammartino and that when we watched wrestling in NYC it came on close to midnight on Friday night and we didn’t have color tv.

Would I be considered old if I told you that the best wrestling match I’ve ever seen was Macho Man Randy Savage and Ricky Steamboat? How about if I mentioned the Big Cat Ernie Ladd, the first Black man I ever saw in the squared circle. I even wanted a cast around my thumb because of him.

How about George “the animal” Steele? As a kid I didn’t really know what crazy was before I saw him. Had nightmare about him chewing off the ring belt buckle.

Well, its now 2016 and me and my son are about to watch the 32nd Westlemania. I can’t believe I’ve been watching wrestling for over 30 years. It may not be what it was in years past, however it continues to build on the legacy of memories. Even if I’m not eagerly awaiting the match up I’ve always wanted to see each year it gives me a space to remember the many years I remain glued to the TV waiting for my favorite WWF hero to take the World Westling Heavyweight Championship from some loser who had be flaunting it in our faces for the last few months.

My son may not remember Roman Reigns or Triple H in the same way that I remember Andre the Giant. But you can best believe all night I’ll be talking about the old school guys like it was yesterday and the Ultimate Warrior is about the enter the ring.

Who was your favorite old school wrestler and why?
